The diary of a divorced businessman in his 50s who turned his life around after getting 135 million yen in debt

First, let me introduce myself.

I am currently a 50-year-old office worker.

I work for the Japanese branch of a foreign financial company, and I receive an annual income that requires me to file a tax return. To get to this point, my life has been full of ups and downs, including one divorce, seven job changes, and 135 million yen in debt.

I also have a 10-year-old daughter.

My daughter is studying abroad at a boarding school, so I can only see her when she returns home during school holidays, which happens about six times a year.

As a salaryman, I am so busy with my job in sales that I am unable to spend enough time with my daughter who is back in Japan. It is also difficult to find time to have a proper conversation with my current wife, and I feel more and more guilty every day.

Working as a salaryman with such thoughts in mind can lead to stress and extremely poor health.

I decided it was time to retire from my job as a salaryman.

So I decided to take action and start my own business.

The new business is an "antique map dealer."

I want to prove to my daughter and wife that being an office worker isn't the only way to live, and that even someone like me can start a business and live a healthy, comfortable, and fulfilling life.

Today is the day I take my first memorable step towards graduating from my job as a salaryman.

My antique map sales business will operate under the trade name SEVEN OCEAN ANTIQUE MAP. In addition to selling antique maps, I would like to use this blog in diary form to record stories I want to share with my daughter, who I am unable to talk to on a daily basis.

The recording fields will consist of seven categories, named after the company name SEVEN OCEAN.

1) Antique Map → Old map

2) Travel

3) Health

4) Salaryman/Changing jobs

5) Investment and asset management

6) Education

7) Relationships
